Promoted by the National Secretariat for Social Communications, the National Social Communication Days took place in Fatima on September 21 and 22.
Under the theme “Generation 2023, all connected: what about the Church?”, Sofia Guerreiro, from the WYD DON BOSCO 23 organization of the Salesian Youth Movement, took part as a speaker.
Held in the aftermath of World Youth Day Lisbon 2023, the National Social Communication Days aimed to point out challenges for the Church’s digital presence and for meeting the new generations.
Sofia Guerreiro, a graduate in Communication Sciences, an animator in the Salesian Youth Movement and a volunteer with WYD DON BOSCO 23 during WYD Lisbon 2023, was one of the guest speakers on the first panel: “Young people in communication: experiences and the future”.
In her speech, Sofia said that the Church needs to adapt its communication to the “youth reality”, which, in her opinion, requires a “deep knowledge of the recipient”.
For the young woman, there is a risk of “constantly being late” in communicating with the new generations, and the Church’s main objective is to be able to make young people “the protagonists of communication”.
Sofia Guerreiro ended her talk by stressing the importance of “active listening”, and that the Church should be a “source of truth”, offering “spaces of spiritual depth, even in the digital world”, to young people who are “empty of meaning”.
