The Portuguese dioceses have been invited to pray for WYD Lisbon 2023, on January 21 and 22. The challenge came from the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for World Youth Day.
Praying for 24 hours with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament for World Youth Day was the challenge set to the Portuguese dioceses.
These 24 hours of prayer with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament will take place between 3 pm on January 21st and 3 p.m. on January 22nd. Their purpose is to invite everyone to pray for the fruits of this World Youth Day and to foster a closer encounter with God.
In Lisbon, each Vicariate will organize its own Vigils with adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, interrupted only by the celebration of Mass. These will be celebrated at the vicariate and parish level.
Also in Guarda, there are four central Churches, where each Arciprestal Organizing Committee (COA) will promote the initiative in its Arciprestate.
Portalegre-Castelo Branco will pray in five central Churches. You can go to the WYD Church of Portalegre (S. Lourenço Church), the WYD Church of Ponte de Sôr (Mother Church), the WYD Church of Abrantes (Our Lady of the Rosary Church), the WYD Church of Sertã (Mother Church) and the WYD Church of Castelo Branco (Espírito Santo Church).
In Viana do Castelo, the 24 hours of prayer will be prayed in the Chapel of Carmelo de Sta. Teresinha.
In Évora, you can join your COP or Youth Group and pray for WYD Lisbon 2023.
In the Diocese of Coimbra, each Territorial Organizing Committee (TOC) is organizing itself to pray in community.
Bragança-Miranda has a prayer programme that is distributed throughout the Diocese, with a large part of the plan taking place in the WYD chapel of the Diocese (Shrine of Nossa Senhora das Graças).
In Porto, this initiative will be promoted by the various vicariates. Also in Santarem, each Vicarage will be responsible for its own Vigil of Adoration. Find out more from the Vicariate Organizing Committee (COV) or your Parish Organizing Committee (COP).
In the Diocese of Setúbal, the 24 hours of prayer will be lived also at vicariate level, each vicariate having a central Church chosen, except for the vicariate of Seixal, which divides the 24 hours of prayer between Fernão Ferro Church and Pinhal dos Frades Church. Also in the Vicariate of Setúbal you may pray at the Church of São Sebastião or at Casa de Santa Ana.
The Diocese of Viseu will gather in the Chapel of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Institute for the opening and closing ceremonies of these 24 hours of prayer. For the remaining hours of adoration, go to your COP and join in prayer.
The Diocese of Vila Real, on the other hand, invites you to go to the nearest Church, to find out the schedule of the nearest Archpriestate.
