WYD DON BOSCO 23

HOST FAMILY

Sign up as a WYD DON BOSCO 23 Host Family and welcome the young Salesian pilgrims participating in WYD Lisbon 2023.

The WYD DON BOSCO 23 Host Families, connected to a Salesian presence (school, parish, other), are available to welcome young Salesian pilgrims participating in the WYD Lisbon 2023 from July 31 to August 7.

The Family must guarantee a minimum of 2 pilgrims, with comfortable sleeping conditions (no bed is necessary), daily hygiene and breakfast. It is also desirable that the family facilitate/help in transporting the pilgrim from their home to the Salesian house if necessary.

Thank you for this generosity of welcoming young people

The message of thanks, from Pope Francis to all the families who will receive pilgrims.

What conditions must the houses of the Host Families have?

They must provide conditions for pilgrims to sleep comfortably, do their daily hygiene and have breakfast. The families should provide a sufficient area for the pilgrims to stay overnight, with a minimum of 2m² per pilgrim. The house should not be more than 30 minutes away (whether by foot, by car or by public transport) from the Salesian house.

On what days will I receive pilgrims?

The welcoming will take place during the week of WYD, from August 1 to August 6, 2023. If the family also has availability on the nights of July 30 to 31, July 31 to August 1, August 6 to 7 and 7 to 8, they should indicate it on the form.

How many pilgrims can I welcome?

Each family should welcome a minimum of 2 pilgrims – when registering, each family can indicate how many pilgrims they can accommodate. The allocation of pilgrims will take into account, whenever possible, the criteria indicated by the family.

Who are the young people and how do they arrive in the Host Family?

Salesian Pilgrim groups arrive at the Salesian House and are assigned families on their arrival day. The Family knows in advance how many young people it will welcome and the time of their arrival. A volunteer can accompany the pilgrims to the Host’s Family home.

Does the family have to guarantee the transportation of the youth?

It is preferred that the Host Family can take the pilgrims, daily, at the beginning and end of the day, to a place defined by the Salesian house. If this is not possible, it should indicate the route they must take to do so. If the house is relatively close to the Salesian presence, this commitment to pick up and take the pilgrims may not be necessary.

Does signing up mean that I will actually receive pilgrims?

No. Signing this form is the first step. The Family will then be contacted to continue the process. You will or will not receive pilgrims according to the accommodation needs of the groups.

Receiving pilgrims is a way of participating in World Youth Day, welcoming Christ into your home and providing young people with the best possible experience.

Families “do this with a big heart, not just to serve, which is already a great thing, but also to open themselves up to other young people and cultures, to another way of seeing life.” (Pope Francis)
