Next Saturday, March 25th, several Portuguese Dioceses will hold a simultaneous prayer vigil for World Youth Day. The Local Organizing Committee for WYD Lisbon 2023 has challenged the Dioceses in this initiative to prepare for WYD.
Lisbon, Santarém and Setúbal, the host Dioceses of pilgrims during WYD, will unite in a Vigil at the Jerónimos Monastery, in Belém, starting at 9:30 pm.
Braga, Bragança-Miranda, Porto and Vila Real will also join for a vigil at the Shrine of Our Lady of Sameiro, in Braga, at 9 pm. In the eight archdioceses of Vila Real, however, a vigil will be held for all those who cannot travel to the city of Braga.
The dioceses of Algarve, Beja and Évora will also hold a joint vigil at the Sé de Beja at 9 pm. The three Diocesan Committees have prepared several activities and moments of sharing for that day. These will take place at the Seminary of Beja and begin at 4 pm. In the Diocese of Portalegre-Castelo Branco, the WYD Vigil will take place in the Church of São Lourenço, at 9 pm.
In Funchal, the prayer vigil will be part of the “WYD Night” program, at the Diocesan Seminary, beginning at 8:30 pm. In Lamego, a prayer vigil for WYD will be held in Tabuaço.
In Viseu, the WYD Vigil will be held in the Chapel of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Institute and various parishes. In Guarda, the vigil will take place in the Cathedral of Guarda, in the Church of Paços da Serra and in the Church Colmeal da Torre. The following day, March 26th, there will be a Vigil in the Church of São Pedro, in Trancoso, at 5:30 pm.
In the Diocese of Leiria-Fatima, the vigil will be anticipated and will take place on the 24th, starting at 9:30 pm in the Shrine of Fatima. The vigil will begin with the prayer of the Rosary and candlelight procession, in the Capelinha das Aparições, continuing afterwards in the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima.
