The orchestra and choir of the World Youth Day Lisbon 2023 was held, last Saturday, May 20, the first joint rehearsal with conductor Joana Carneiro.
The Social Center parish of Alfornelos was the place chosen for the first rehearsal of the orchestra and choir of WYD Lisbon 2023 under the baton of Maestrina Joana Carneiro.
The orchestra is composed of about 100 musicians, mostly professionals and higher education students, from various schools, universities, orchestras, and bands from all over the country. The choir is made up of about 200 choristers from all over the country, representing 18 dioceses. Divided into four groups of voices: female Suits – sopranos (high voices) and contraltos (low voices) and male suits – tenors (high voices) and basses (low voices), all elements have choral experience and basic music reading skills. The choir also integrates a team of several conductors and accompanists for each rehearsal.
With an extensive repertoire to cover the five celebrations that will mark WYD Lisbon 2023, the orchestra and choir will perform about 50 songs, including the anthem of the meeting “There is haste in the air”.
Further joint tests are planned in June and July.
