The stage located on Colina do Encontro Parque Eduardo VII), which will host three of the main moments of World Youth Day – Opening Mass, Reception and Way of the Cross – began to be set up last weekend. The work is expected to last one month.
Designed by architect João Matos, the stage will be 40 meters wide and 24 meters high, occupying a total area of 430 m2. The work will cost around 450 thousand euros, which will be fully supported by the JMJ Lisboa 2023 Foundation, with the support of a private entity.
It is in front of this stage that young people from all over the world will gather to celebrate the Opening Mass of WYD Lisbon 2023, on the 1st of August, which will be presided over by the Cardinal-Patriarch, D. Manuel Clemente. On the 3rd of August, the reception of pilgrims will be celebrated and, on the 4th, the Way of the Cross. Two meetings that mark the great reunion of Pope Francis with young people.
At the main events, around a hundred priests will be on the stage, as well as elements of the choir and orchestra, who will perform in the ceremony presided over by Pope Francis.
