4th International Conference on Care for Creation

Promoted by the John Paul II Foundation for Youth, in collaboration with World Youth Day (WYD), the 4th International Conference on Care for Creation will take place in Lisbon, at the Catholic University, on the 31st of July.

Opening Mass

The Opening Mass marks the beginning of WYD. This is the first Central Event, which will take place on the first day of the meeting, at Colina do Encontro (Parque Eduardo VII). The ceremony will be presided over by D. Manuel Clemente, Cardinal-Patriarch of Lisbon.

Arruda in Chiado

Arruada, prepared by “Musicentro dos Salesianos de Lisboa”, aims to bring together as many youngsters as possible on the streets of Lisbon, so that their music can bring joy to everyone.

SYM Forum

This is a time of encounter with the Rector Major of the Salesians, with the General Mother of the Daughters of Mary Helper of Christians and with some other superiors from groups of the Salesian Family. During this meeting, young representatives from different countries reflect and debate on a certain topic and also have the opportunity to ask questions to the Rector and Mother General.

Eucharist with the Rector Major

Tambóra concert

The Tambóra project, a percussion group made up of 15 members, aged between 8 and 24, from the Ludoteca da Galiza, with the presence of the Filhas de Maria Auxiliadora (Daughters of Our Lady Helper of Christians), will perform at the Portas do Sol viewpoint and cheer up those who are there.

Flash Mob

A group of 60 youngsters, from the Salesians of Funchal, will liven up Terreiro do Paço with a Flash Mob. The group is previously recording the video and music, which will then be sent to all MJS groups, thus allowing everyone to participate and party.

AUGUST 5TH

Vigil

The Vigil will gather in Campo da Graça (Parque Tejo), on Saturday night, youngsters from all over the world. These, together with the Holy Father, will have the opportunity to pray and adore the Blessed Sacrament. At the end of the Vigil, the pilgrims stay overnight in Campo Graça until the Mass of the Sending, which will take place the following morning.

Sending Mass

The Sending Mass marks the end of World Youth Day Lisbon 2023. This is celebrated by Pope Francis on Sunday morning, in Campo da Graça. Before the end of Mass, the Holy Father announces the city that will host the next edition of World Youth Day.

Meeting with the Volunteers

As a gesture of gratitude for the work of each volunteer in the preparation of the largest meeting of youngsters from all over the world with the Pope, the Holy Father always reserves a moment to meet with the volunteers. This meeting will take place on Sunday, at Passeio Marítimo de Algés.
