Rise Up Meetings: young people as protagonists

The Rise Up Meetings invite all young people to reflect on the major themes launched by Pope Francis’ pontificate.

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of World Youth Day (WYD) Lisbon 2023 has presented a new model of catechesis – the Rise Up Encounters – which aim to mobilize young people around the world to prepare for WYD Lisbon 2023 by reflecting on key issues for the world and for life in society, such as integral ecology, social friendship and mercy, among others.

Proposing several preparatory meetings, which should take place between April and June, the catechetical itinerary Rise UP will provide all young people with an experience in line with the synodal journey 2021-2024, currently underway in the Universal Church under the theme “For a Synodal Church: communion, participation and mission.

It is intended that young people be the protagonists of this important reflection, mobilizing them to debate the themes that will then be worked on in the Rise UP meetings that will take place during World Youth Day Lisbon 2023.

These Rise UP preparatory meetings are open to everyone, from catechetical groups, youth groups, movements and ecclesial realities linked to youth and university ministry, regardless of whether or not they are pilgrims to the Day.

The catechetical itinerary Rise UP will be carried out, in phases, and over three stages until WYD Lisbon 2023: listening, through preparatory meetings where it is possible to reflect and freely express what they feel and think about the themes; dreaming, through dialogue among the participants about possibilities for the future path (What do I feel before what I heard? What inspires me?); and rising up, with the final synthesis of the meetings to be shared on the WYD Lisbon 2023 platform, in order to give continuity to this joint reflection.
