Families will play an important role in welcoming the young people who will arrive in Portugal to participate in World Youth Day Lisbon 2023. In order to thank them for their generosity, Pope Francis has sent a message of gratitude to all the host families.

Addressing the host families who have already registered and encouraging many others who still want to register, in the video he sent recently, Pope Francis begins by thanking them for their generosity: “Thank you for this generosity in hosting young people.

In the video, the Holy Father stresses that the arrival of these young people will, in a way, revolutionise homes. “In bourgeois terms, we would say, they will be a discomfort,” the Pope notes, but adds that all young people “will leave the seed from another point of view”.

Francis also emphasises that the testimony of the young foreigners presents as the “most beautiful experience” the passage through host families, showing that “it is possible to be Christian in another way, with another culture”.

He concludes by emphasising the fact of being able to “look to the horizon beyond our small limits” and asking everyone to pray for him.
